What is Fibromyaglia?           (Don't Forget to Bookmark this Page!)
Fibromyalgia is a debilitating disease that causes widespread body pain that
normal pain relievers will not stop.  It is commonly suffered along with
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Myofacial Pain Syndrome, disabling the
individual to the point where they cannot function normally in their daily
lives.  Narcotic drugs are prescribed to control the pain and most recently a
drug called Lyrica is being widely used.  Please take a look at some of the
pages for information about fibromyalgia.  I hope you will find them useful
in developing your treatment plan.

Symptoms

What Are the Symptoms?

Symptoms of fibromyalgia include:

Chronic muscle pain, muscle spasms or
tightness, and leg cramps

Moderate or severe fatigue and
decreased energy

Insomnia or waking up feeling just as
tired as when you went to sleep

Stiffness upon waking or after staying
in one position for too long

Difficulty remembering, concentrating,
and performing simple mental tasks

Abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and
constipation alternating with diarrhea
(irritable bowel syndrome)

Tension or migraine headaches

Jaw and facial tenderness

Sensitivity to one or more of the
following: odors, noise, bright lights,
medications, certain foods, and cold

Feeling anxious or depressed
Numbness or tingling in the face, arms,
hands, legs, or feet

Increase in urinary urgency or frequency
(irritable bladder)

Reduced tolerance for exercise and
muscle pain after exercise

A feeling of swelling (without actual
swelling) in the hands and feet

Painful menstrual periods

Dizziness

Symptoms may intensify depending on
the time of day -- morning, late
afternoon, and evening tend to be the
worst times, while 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
tends to be the best time.  They may also
get worse with fatigue, tension,
inactivity, changes in the weather, cold
or drafty conditions, overexertion,
hormonal fluctuations (such as just
before your period or during
menopause), stress, depression, or other
emotional factors.

GDX is a great source for information on Fibromyalgia.  Not only do they
have articles on symptoms, they also explain why the symptoms are
experienced and offer various treatments for them.  A very informative site.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Fibromyalgia uses many different
ways to attack a person's body.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or CFS is
one of the most common.  This is not
being tired after a hard day or just
feeling lackadaisical.  It is not "just
in a person's mind" or "just being
lazy".  CFS is a constant state of
exhaustion that dehabilitates the
individual beyond normal fatigue.
Rest or sleep do not help.  Most
people who suffer from Fibromyalgia
also have CFS and it produces it's
own symptoms that have to be
managed.
The CFIDS Report is a great source
of information for CFS management.
